Hyundai Pro-Longboard at Sandy Bay

8/02/09
Missing my 500mm lens and having to photograph with my 300mm f4 and 1.4x extender didn't produce the professional surfing photographs I had hoped for but maybe next time.
The standard of surfing made for a couple of days worth viewing and photographing with beautiful weather and an ok surf rolling in on Sandy Bay on the Tutukaka coast near Whangarei. It was however disappointing to see a very ugly algae bloom amongst the breakers making the shore look like an ocean of pollution, not that this stopped the surfing action and dedication to find the perfect ride and score the points.
Amongst the surfers competing were some of New Zealand's top and famous surfers, I managed a few photos of Daniel Proctor, Daisy Thomas, Anna Jolly and Olympic gold medallist windsurfer Barbara Kendall to name a few.
A few of the surfing photographs from the weekend can be viewed in the gallery below.
Also to see more of my surfing photos they are available for viewing and purchasing from the
Until next time, keep smiling.
